Welcome back to Fitness February at Rosevear Tea!
Each week this month, we are sharing our favourite healthy teas which are the perfect complement to your fitness and healthy eating regime.
This week, it’s one of our customer favourites, Kukicha.
Green tea is the world’s oldest and one of the most loved types of tea.
Nowadays, when people want a healthy hot drink, they often turn to green tea. Green tea is jam packed with anti-oxidants (polyphenols), nutrients and flavour. Used by the Chinese for medicinal purposes for millennia, green tea helps to focus the mind and reduces stress.
While tea contains caffeine like coffee, it also contains other substances (theophylline and theobromine, 2 other stimulants, L-theanine a very rare occurring amino acid in nature) that react together to increase alertness over a long period of time while at the same time reducing stress and making us more relaxed.
Green tea contains high levels of polyphenols which are compounds with antioxidative properties. These compounds fight the free radicals in our body and can help reduce signs of aging. It has been shown in scientific tests that drinking green tea can help protect us from cancer and have cardio-vascular benefits.
A relaxing and invigorating drink, green tea helps rid the body of toxins and boosts your body’s immune system. There are many different green teas, all of which have different flavours and different health benefits.
What makes Kukicha Special?
Kukicha is a Japanese green tea that is made of twigs and stems. It contains few actual tea leaves but it produces a delicious sweet and nutty drink.
Kukicha offers the iodine notes of a traditional Japanese tea, it is also wonderfully sweet, nutty and creamy (thanks to the L-Theanine it contains).
On top of the healthy benefits of green teas mentioned above, Kukicha is also bursting with calcium and vitamin C and can help with digestion.
It is naturally lower in caffeine than other green teas. The low caffeine content means some people enjoy a pot of Kukicha before bed.
Additionally, if you follow an alkaline diet, Kukicha is an alkalizing drink, which will help reduce acidity and help with the digestion of grains and vegetables.
Kukicha can be prepared using water heated to 75°C.
It is best infused for 4 minutes but can be left for longer without any bitterness developing. It can also can be reinfused up to four times.
Kukicha is ideal for those who want a nourishing steaming cup of sweet and flavoursome green tea that will not only benefit your body but also relax your mind.
