Welcome back to Fitness February at Rosevear Tea!
Each week this month, we are sharing our favourite healthy teas which can complement your fitness and healthy eating regime.
This week we’re featuring a herbal infusion, Camomile Flowers.
Blooming with flavour and sweet aromas, this herbal drink is also full of hidden health benefits.
The heads of camomile flowers, which originate from the daisy family, are used to make this herbal infusion.
These flowers are vibrantly yellow and delicate, which makes it a beautiful infusion to watch.
What makes Camomile Flowers so special?
Camomile Flowers have been renowned over thousands of years for their calming and curative qualities.
Well-known as a treatment for insomnia, Camomile Flowers also reduce stress, nervousness and anxiety.
This floral infusion can also help alleviate muscle cramps and aid digestion by relaxing the stomach muscles, so is often drunk after meals and is used by some to relieve morning sickness during pregnancy.
What is not so well known is that drinking Camomile Flowers can help stimulate the liver and gallbladder, improving overall health and wellbeing.
It also has antispasmodic properties, and if you struggle with heartburn, is a wonderful alternative to milk for those who are lactose intolerant or vegan.
Not only this, but it has been shown to be good for helping relieve lumbago, rheumatic problems and rashes as well as providing some relief for allergies, in a similar way to an antihistamine.
Camomile Flowers helps to speed up healing of skin ulcers, wounds, or burns – what a medal winner of an infusion!
This delicate and delicious infusion tastes great on its own or with the addition of honey or lemon, for those of you who crave something sweet in the evening or before bed.
We recommend infusing with 95°C water for 5-8 minutes, depending on personal preference.
