Keeping Loose Leaf Teas in the Best Condition
Most teas, apart from dark teas, deteriorate with time. Tea is a fresh product, so it has to be kept well. Tea hates humidity, light, heat and air and it has to be kept away from those elements. Only then will it deliver all its promises and potentials in your cup.
So we have chosen our packaging to respect this: they are airtight and opaque.
We would recommend that you keep your teas in those pouches to keep them in optimum conditions.
Alternatively, you could purchase a tin from our tea shop in Edinburgh that will provide the same conditions.
The tea leaves have gone through a process that has dried them, but in order for them to remain flexible and not to crumble into dust when handled, it is important to keep that water level at around 3-4%.
If they were exposed to heat, the tea leaves would continue to dry.
If they were exposed to light, the tea leaves would lose their vivid colour.
Tea leaves could also absorb strong odours so the tea pouch should be resealed after each use.
Taking into account all these factors, your tea pouch has a “best before” label.
